Calumet cleaning up government books

Calumet Village Manager Caleb Katz gave an update during Tuesday’s council meeting about efforts to get obsolete and redundant government regulations off the books. He said he had been focusing recently on reducing the number of fees pertaining to taxi services and pet licensing in the village. Katz said the process had discovered a fund for the Calumet Theatre that hasn’t been tapped since at least 1995.

It hasn’t been used since I was in kindergarten, so 1995. We just need your approval to close it and then we can disburse those funds to the theatre themselves. The fund was originally used for improvements and construction with the theatre whenever they needed to use it. It has just been sitting there for 25 years.

The goal is to transfer those funds directly to the Calumet Theatre Company in the coming weeks. It totals $683.02.

Road crews were commended for their work to clear the heavy snows seen in the village since February 4th. Accumulations of over 60 inches have been seen in the past two weeks. Members of the council expressed concern about the growing leak at the garage and said repairs would be needed as soon as spring weather permits.

An update on the progress of the tiling project at Village Hall was given. Katz described it as “all but completed.” It just needs to be buffed.
