Cadeau Deemed Competent to Stand Trial

The 30-year-old Houghton man charged with murdering an elderly woman last year is now competent to stand trial. Timothy Cadeau is scheduled for a preliminary exam in Houghton County District Court January 16. He had undergone a number of competency exams since his arrest in September 2013. Court officials say even though Cadeau is competent to stand trial, he will continue to stay at a forensics center to receive treatment. They do not know if he will physically appear in court next month, or if the proceedings will be done via television. Cadeau is charged with ‘open murder’ in the death of 84-year-old Geraldine Fouts at her home in the Douglass House Apartments in Houghton.
