Business and Labor Group Says Rising Healthcare Costs Hurting Job Growth

A coalition of business and labor groups says more needs to be done to reign in healthcare costs.

The Economic Alliance for Michigan (EAM) released a report showing the rising cost of the average family insurance premium outpaced income growth from 2008 to 2013, meaning workers effectively made less in 2013 than the previous five years.

EAM spokesman, Bret Jackson, says the best way to create jobs and increase wages is to attack healthcare costs.

The report says 90 percent of company leaders say they would invest more in their business if its healthcare costs were lower.
Jackson says the state’s leaders need to address rising healthcare costs to stop or at least ease the drain on the economy.
