Michigan State Police say burglaries were down statewide last year. During 2013, there were just under 54,300 reported burglary offenses in Michigan, 15 percent lower than the previous year. July and August have the greatest number of burglaries with over 4,000 each month last year. Overwhelmingly, items targeted by home burglars are guns, cash, jewelry and electronics, such as televisions, DVD players and stereos. State Police say the loss values for all property crimes in 2013 was more than $671 million.
