An organization made up of industry, community organizations and state regulators says that broadband internet connections in Michigan is running ahead of the national average, with 79% of households subscribing to broadband service last year. That’s a 13% increase over 2010 according to Connect Michigan. A recent Pew Research Center study showed the national adoption rate was 70%. Eric Frederick of Connect Michigan says they’re encouraged by the increase in Michigan. However, he says a “digital gap” still exists, as more than 271 school-age children in Michigan still do not have broadband access at home.
