Bridgefest has arrived and though things may be a little different this year, the festival will still have the attractions people have come to enjoy.
The event began as a celebration of the anniversary of the Portage Lake Lift Bridge, which officially opened in 1959.
Bridgefest Planning Committee Member Susie Landers:
One of the highlights of the weekend is the Bridgefest Parade which kicks things off this evening at 7pm.
The route will be different this year, due to the road project in Hancock.
This year, the parade will begin on College Ave at Cliff Drive and pass through downtown Houghton, ending at the Ambassador Restaurant.
From there, the public is invited to head down to the waterfront to enjoy the vendors and activities.
Sumo wrestling, a car show and helicopter rides are just a few examples of what you’ll find.
Bridgefest concludes with the Jon Davis Memorial Fireworks show over the Portage Canal Saturday night.
