Bob Linn Scholarship to be Awarded in Honor of Former Hancock Resident

BobLinn001cmykSm (1)Isle Royale, Michigan—The Isle Royale & Keweenaw Parks Association and the George Wright Society are awarding a college scholarship in memory of former Hancock resident, Bob Linn, a founding member of both organizations. Bob was chief naturalist for Isle Royale National Park for many years before becoming chief scientist for the National Park Service in Washington, DC. The Bob Linn Scholarship pays tribute to Bob by providing financial assistance to students interested in nature and the environment.

The Bob Linn Scholarship will provide $500 to a high school senior with plans to major in the natural sciences. The scholarship is open to all students in the Copper Country Intermediate School District, and the application process is simple.

Applicants should be a senior from a CCISD high school or home school, or child/grandchild of Isle Royale & Keweenaw Parks Association or George Wright Society member. They should have received college acceptance with plans to major in natural resources, forestry, biological, earth or environmental sciences or a related field. They should also have an interest in nature and the environment as demonstrated by letter and recommendations. Children or grandchildren of Isle Royale National Park, Keweenaw National Historical Park, IRKPA, or George Wright Society employees are not eligible for this award.

Application requirements include: a completed Linn Scholarship cover sheet, available from irkpa@irkpa.org or http://irkpa.org/get-involved/news, a letter of not more than 2 pages describing college plans and activities and volunteer work related to nature and the environment, a letter of recommendation from a teacher, scout leader, or other unrelated adult, and a copy of their school transcript.

The deadline is April 30, 2016. Those interested should send applications to Isle Royale & Keweenaw Parks Association, 800 E Lakeshore Dr, Houghton, MI 49931-1869 or drop off at the Isle Royale National Park Visitor Center.
