Bill Would Encourage Some Students To Take CTE Classes

Copper Country Intermediate School District Superintendent George Stockero informed the District’s Board of Education that the State House passed a bill that would affect the Michigan Merit Curriculum.

The announcement was made at the Board’s monthly meeting this week.

Currently, all students must take one class in visual or performing arts and two classes in a foreign language.

In the State House bill, those classes could be replaced with what are called 21st Century Skills classes–which include computer based classes or certified Career and Technical Education classes.

The bill now moves to the Senate.

Stockero said if it passes, there would be a major increase in CTE enrollment.
