Bill to Protect Digital Assets Passes House Committee

What happens to the photos you store online and your Facebook and Twitter accounts when you die?

And who has a legal right to those digital assets?

Both are questions State Representative Anthony Forlini is trying to answer with a bill he’s introduced to protect those assets.

He says, with more and more people storing photos online over putting together photo albums, there should be a legal way to ensure someone has access to those.

Forlini says you could just share a password or keep that information in a file but it still doesn’t guarantee a legal right to things stored online.

The measure passed a House committee Tuesday and could be taken up by the full House when lawmakers return from break on December 1st.
