A bill to help keep siblings in foster care together cleared the state Senate Tuesday.
The legislation would require a reasonable effort be made to keep siblings removed from a home in the same placement, or provide for frequent visitation, unless the state deems doing so would not be safe.
Bill sponsor, Senator Rick Jones, says he’s very concerned about protecting foster children adding that his daughter has served as a foster parent.
He says he wants to make sure siblings are able to maintain a bond.
The legislation would also allow for frequent visits from a parent as long as a judge determines it poses no danger to the child.
The measure now heads to the House.
