Bill to Help Disabled Hunters Heads to Governor

Disabled hunters in Michigan will have more opportunities to get outdoors, under a bill headed to the governor.

The measure, which won final legislative approval in the state Senate, would allow those with mobility issues and have certain permits to hunt from personal mobility devices, like an electric wheelchair or mobility scooter.

Supporters of the legislation say it will ensure the state’s not keeping its disabled residents from getting outdoors.

The legislation also changes the safety zone that prevents bow hunting and trapping 150 yards from a structure.

But the safety zone will not change for firearms hunters.
