The governor has signed into law legislation designed to help catch suspects who injure or kill a police officer.
The measure would create a Blue Alert System, which, bill sponsor, Senator Tonya Schuitmaker says would work much like the Amber Alert to inform the public about suspects involved in an incident when an officer is hurt or killed.
She says the program will be run by state police and since Blue Alerts use the same notification system as Amber Alerts, the cost for set-up is minimal.
Twenty-four states have already enacted Blue Alert legislation. Michigan will be the 25th.
