Legislators in Lansing may soon resume work on a bill that puts new regulations on transportation-related companies like Uber.
Critics of such for-hire transportation firms say it needs regulations like limousines and similar services are regulated, in order to provide safety for riders.
Those in the industry say there’s already enough regulations.
Other critics add that their lack of regulation creates an unfair business advantage.
The Michigan Public Transit Association has a bit of a different take.
Executive Director Clark Harder says they don’t have a problem with Uber per se, but he notes that the public should be aware of the “greater risk” for riders due to the lack of oversight.
The bill is before the Senate Regulatory Reform Committee.
Lawmakers return to Lansing from their spring break April 14th.
