U.S. Representative Jack Bergman is applauding a move by President Donald Trump to make it easier for armed forces veterans to transition into careers in the Merchant Marine. The executive order issued this week will establish a procedure for notifying qualified servicemen and women who are nearing the ends of their enlistment terms of opportunities available on the Merchant Marine. Application and credentialing fees for qualified veterans will be waived. Bergman says the new policy will help Great Lakes Shipping Companies attract employees who have gained relevant experience in the military.
