Baraga Shelter Home Needs Help

For more than three decades, the Baraga County Shelter Home has been providing emergency shelter and counseling services to victims of domestic or sexual violence. Now it’s looking to the community for a little bit of help. State and federal grants provide funding for some of the basics at shelter home, but there are supply and occupancy costs, as well as repairs, that aren’t covered. To help pay for some of those repair projects, Executive Director Jamie Palmer says the shelter home is raffling off an eight-foot-tall Christmas stocking filled to the brim with toys just in time for the holidays.

Palmer says the new siding will cost around $10,000 and the windows will cost more than $2,000. Those interested in helping out by entering to win the gigantic Christmas stocking can visit the following locations in L’Anse: The Bohemia Shop, Java by the Bay, Pat’s Foods, the American Legion and the VFW. The winner will be drawn at noon on December 18th. People looking to donate and those who are in need of the Baraga County Shelter Home’s services can call their crisis line.
