Baraga Man Hurt in Accidental Shooting

An accidental shooting in Baraga Township early Saturday sent a 31-year-old local man to the hospital.

Michigan State Police troopers were called out just before 1:00 am. They found the injured man, with a 28-year man from Ashland, Wisconsin, providing first aid.

Troopers say it appears the Ashland man was handling a gun when it accidentally discharged, sending a bullet through a garage door, and into the victim.

The men are described as close friends. They reportedly had been drinking.

The victim was treated at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, and then transferred to U.P. Health System-Marquette. His condition is not known.
