Principal Lori Wisniewski has sent a letter home to parents, regretfully informing them that Baraga Elementary will be reduced to remote learning for this week, to return to in person instruction on January 31st. She says staff shortages and illness due to omicron are to blame.
Changes in quarantine protocol have recently reduced the amount of time in isolation for those exposed to a close contact with the disease, or who are asymptomatic. The recommended window is now five days. By closing the elementary physically through Friday, Wisniewski hopes to get the staff “back to full capacity and slow things down for a bit.”
Omicron’s increased transmissibility has reduced the effectiveness of many steps taken by districts to limit the spread of the disease within the school environment.
