Baraga County Seeks Road Commission Applicants

Baraga County is accepting applications from residents who would like to serve on the Road Commission.

Commission chair Nicholas Lindemann’s term is expiring. He has expressed an interest in continuing. The other two members of the road commission, Harold Miron and Steve Koski, told county commissioners Monday night that they would like Lindemann to stay on.

Others may apply for the job, however, and application information can be obtained through the County Clerk’s office.

At Monday night’s meeting, commissioners formally accepted a $300,000 grant from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, which will be used for campsite and trail expansion at Point Abbaye Park. The county will contribute $130,000 in matching funds, which will be gleaned from federal American Rescue Plan Act money.

Commissioners also awarded this winter’s snow removal contract to Kahkonen Excavating. Kahkonen was the only company that submitted a bid. Prices will be similar to those charged last winter.
