Ban on Powdered Alcohol Signed Into Law

The lieutenant governor has signed into law legislation to ban powdered alcohol in Michigan.

State Senator Rick Jones sponsored the bill to prohibit the sale, use and possession of powdered alcohol, also known as “palcohol.”

He says the problem with the product is that it was being marketed to teens.

Jones, a former Eaton County sheriff, says he’s seen a lot of young people die of alcohol poisoning and feels powdered alcohol would make the problem worse.

Under the measure, having or selling palcohol would be a misdemeanor punishable by up to 90 days in jail and/or a $500 fine.

Michigan joins several other states that have already banned the powder.
