Criminal charges have been filed by the state against a now disbarred attorney for embezzling more than $100,000 from a client suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
Attorney General Bill Schuette says 67-year old Michael Aho Kennedy of Petoskey made discreet transactions siphoning funds from the victim’s trust and made multiple deposits into his office checking account.
During that time the victim was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and passed away in August.
Kennedy was disbarred in March.
He was arraigned in Emmet County District Court on Monday and charged with two counts of embezzlement. Both are 20 year felonies. He was assigned a $100,000 cash bond.
