Aspirus Light the Night Fun Run/Walk Registration Now Open

Registration is now open for the fourth annual Aspirus Keweenaw Light the Night Fun Run/Walk in Laurium on Saturday, September 16. Mark your calendar and get your glow on with family and friends as each year is bigger and better than the last.

Light the Night kicks off at 7:15 p.m. with a free 1K for children. The 5K Fun Run/Walk follows at 7:45 p.m. The route begins and ends in the courtyard at Aspirus Keweenaw. Plenty of glow sticks and color blasts (optional) will be on hand for those who want to go all-out. Last year, more than 250 participants of all ages attended and organizers are anticipating another successful turnout.

“This is something we look forward to every year because it brings people together for a great cause and it’s a lot of fun,” said Jenn Jenich-Laplander, Aspirus Keweenaw Marketing Logistics Coordinator. “It’s a great way to wrap up your summer by supporting the community in a big way.”

Light the Night is a fundraiser event with proceeds this year going to 31 Backpacks, Inc. The 31 Backpacks organization works to combat childhood hunger by sending nutritious foods home in backpacks every Friday and on school breaks for eligible children. In previous years, Light the Night has supported the Barbara Kettle Gundlach Shelter Home, the Childhood Cancer Fund, and the creation of the Birth Place Lending Library at Aspirus Keweenaw.

Registration is $25, and includes a t-shirt, glow sticks and optional color blast. For students ages 11 – 18, registration is $15. Register online through Sept. 14, or from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the hospital courtyard the day of the race.

Participants are encouraged to get creative with their clothing – the brighter the better! Fun prizes, including gift certificates and athletic gear, will be drawn following the event. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided. Light the Night is sponsored by the Aspirus Keweenaw Women’s Health Team.
