Aspirus Has New Integrated Care Team Dedicated To Women's Pelvic Health

LAURIUM – A new integrated care team dedicated to improving women’s pelvic health is providing comprehensive treatment pathways for patients close to home.

The pelvic health team at Aspirus clinics in Houghton and Laurium combines the expertise of Pelvic Physical Therapy Specialist Anne Cooke, PT, MS, CAPP-certified, and Urologist Shahar Madjar, MD. They provide a collaborative approach to care that’s compassionate and understanding of the unique needs of women at all ages and stages of life.

Treatment pathways range from more conservative, therapeutic options to advanced diagnostic and minimally invasive procedures for conditions like urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, pelvic floor prolapse and discomfort. Together, they are helping women get back to enjoying life sooner.

“Oftentimes, women suffering from pelvic floor disorders may have one or several medical conditions, and each can be of differing severities,” said Dr. Madjar. “A team approach to care provides diverse treatment options that span from very conservative measures, such as behavioral change and physiotherapy, to minimally invasive surgical solutions. Our goal is to provide the best outcomes for patients.”

Dr. Madjar has extensive experience in women’s pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery. Cooke is certified by the American Physical Therapy Association in pelvic physical therapy, and has advanced training in obstetric health. She specializes in non-surgical therapy solutions and rehabilitative techniques to help women overcome the challenges of pelvic floor dysfunction and pain.

While pelvic floor dysfunction is a sensitive topic; it’s a very common, treatable condition. “So many women think they have to live with conditions such as urinary incontinence, but the reality is, treatment options have very high success rates,” Cooke said. “We’re here to help women get back to feeling normal and enjoying life to the fullest.”
