Asian Carp Moving Closer To Lake Michigan

The dreaded Asian Carp is inching closer to Lake Michigan.

A committee made up federal and state agencies monitoring the invasive fish found two small carp 12 miles closer to the lake, putting Asian Carp 66 miles closer to Lake Michigan than it was earlier in the year.

However the group also notes the fish are still more than 76 miles from the lake and a couple of dams and electric barriers remain between the carp and Lake Michigan.

The non-native fish eats – a lot – and there are concerns the Asian Carp could wipe out the habitat and food sources for other fish in the Great Lakes if it reaches Lake Michigan.
