Asian Carp Approaching Lake Michigan

An environmental coalition says that new test results from the U-S Fish and wildlife Service show that DNA of the Asian carp has been detected in the Chicago Area Waterway System, less than one city block away from Lake Michigan.

The Alliance for the Great Lakes, along with several other organizations are calling on elected officials and the federal government to commit to creating a permanent divide between the Great Lakes and the Chicago waterway.

The U-S Army Corps of Engineers last winter released a report on possible solutions to the threat posed by the Asian carp, but there has been no action.

The Asian carp is invasive and they voraciously feed on food an nutrients consumed by native fish and thus pose a huge threat to the Great Lakes ecosystem.
