Artist-in-Residence Program Accepting Applications Until February

Many artists writers, and composers have been inspired by nature and the beauty held by it. Some have even been inspired by the natural beauty found on the remote island in the middle of Lake Superior. In the past few years, the National Parks Service has encouraged the inspiration of creativity brought on by Isle Royale through the Artist in Residence program. The Artist in Residence program brings artists to the island for a two to three-week period to interoperate the park’s wonders through their artistic medium. The program is open to a variety of artistic styles including painting, photography, and written works, and is selected based on an artist’s ability to reside in a wilderness environment. The works created by artists in the program are then donated to the National Park as a part of an exhibit. Individuals are interested to learn more about the Artist-in-residence with the Isle Royale National Park co-sponsored by the Isle Royale and Keweenaw Parks Association, and the Copper Country Community Arts Council can find more details here.

Visit the park’s Artist-in-Residence website for the online application process: www.nps.gov/isro/getinvolved/artist-in-residence. To be considered, all application components must be digitally received by 11:59 pm ET on February 16, 2024. Entries received after February 16 will not be considered. Notification to all applicants will be made by May 1, 2024. For more information, visit the park’s website, call (906) 482-0984, or email isro_parkinfo@nps.gov
