AR-15 Bullet Will Not Be Banned By ATF

A particular type of ammunition used for the AR-15 assault rifle will not be banned, according to reports from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The announcement is heralded by Congressman Dan Benishek…who joined a group of lawmakers opposing the reclassification of the bullet as “armor piercing”—which would have made it unavailable to the general public.

Benishek said, “I believe in the Second Amendment.  I believe that people in this country have the right to keep and bear arms.  It’s not going to do any good to have any arms if you don’t have any ammunition, and I think the people in Michigan’s first district bear that position as well and I’m proud to stand up to the president, put a stop to what I think is an illegal order.”

Previously, Benishek joined 278 members of the House of Representatives in calling on the ATF to not proceed with the proposed rule.  He also signed on to legislation which would have prevented the ban from taking effect.
