Finlandia University has named Angela Price, CPA, to the role of Chief Financial Officer. Price began her new duties at the university in late January.
“Angela’s professional experience and qualifications, together with her knowledge of the university and commitment to our learning community combined to make her a strong candidate,” President Philip Johnson said. “I am confident that Angela will bring exceptional leadership to this office.”
The opportunity was something Price, who was born and raised in the Copper Country, couldn’t pass up.
“There are some incredible strengths here at Finlandia,” she said. “Everyone here has the same common goal of helping our students succeed. I’ve seen people throughout campus do amazing things to help our students. I’m looking forward to doing my part in this new role.”
Price is a CPA with a master’s degree in accounting from the University of Florida. She spent nearly two decades in the accounting industry including time at PricewaterhouseCoopers, the largest professional services firm in the world, Red Hat, Inc., and nearly a decade working as a consultant with companies in the public and private sectors throughout the United States and abroad, including stints as interim controller and tax manager.
During that time Price served as the main contact during SEC, IRS, and government grant audits, developed and implemented internal controls, completed numerous SEC and tax filings, led special projects teams related to debt restructurings, acquisitions, and divestitures, planned and completed process re-engineering of finance functions, developed and updated annual budgets, as well as completed several other special projects with senior management to develop and implement business strategies for tax and other cost-saving measures.
Price moved back to the Copper Country in 2011, and shortly after took a faculty position in Finlandia’s International School of Business. In addition to her teaching she has continued in her role as consultant.
“I loved working with students as a faculty member, but I have a true passion for accounting that has drawn be back into the business side of the field,” Price said. “The opportunities and challenges of running a private, not-for-profit university in today’s economic climate are great, I look forward to them.”
Price is filling a vacancy left by Nick Stevens, who left the university in late 2015.
