In an effort to better accommodate the surge of holiday travelers, Amtrak is adding trains on some Michigan routes.
Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari says the biggest travel days of the year for Amtrak are the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and the Sunday after. So, he says, they’re adding service on two Michigan routes because regular trains sell out.
Magliari says they are running an additional train between Chicago and Holland and an extra train on the Wolverine route, between Chicago and Pontiac.
To make travel a little easier, Magliari says travelers can buy their tickets online at Amtrack. or call 800-USA-RAIL and suggests travelers allow some extra time to board, so get to the station about 45 minutes early.
Last year, Amtrak carried 772,211 passengers during the Thanksgiving travel period, the most ever for a holiday.
