A reunion four-and-a-half years in the making will happen today in Germany when Amir Hekmati sees his family for the first time since he received and death sentence from an Iranian court and was thrown in prison.
Hekmati, a U.S. Marine from Flint, was released from prison over the weekend.
U.S. Congressman Dan Kildee will be in Germany too, at the request of the Hekmati family.
Amir’s sister, Sarah, and her husband will make the trip too. His father, who is sick, and his mother are not making the trek.
Hekmati will receive medical treatment in Germany and will fly home once he gets a clean bill of health.
Kildee is also worried about his mental health after spending over four years in what he calls one of the worst prisons in the world.
