An Ahmeek man is facing prison time after pleading guilty to criminal sex charges involving a minor.
The Williston Herald reports that 45-year-old Shane Karrio entered into a plea agreement prior to his trial for a charge of Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child.
As a Class AA Felony, Karrio could have faced up to life in prison if convicted.
The plea agreement, however, recommends a 15-year sentence with 10 years and six months suspended.
That means Karrio may still have to serve four and a half years,
He will also have to register as a sex offender.
According to the prosecution, Karrio was sexually involved with a 14-year-old girl from September 2012 to January 2013 while living in North Dakota.
He was arrested by Michigan State Police in October and waived extradition.
A trial was scheduled for February 9th, but Karrio changed his Not Guilty plea the day before, in accordance with the plea agreement.
Sentencing has not been scheduled.
