Just in time for the Copper Country to visit Gabriel Chopp Park too. Ahmeek’s Fire Department and Village have recently completed the installation of a new disability-accessible swing set at Gabriel Chopp Park. Over the past two years, the Fire Department and the Village government have worked together toward projects in the village recreation plan. The village wants to create a space that becomes a destination for families and youth to improve their mental and physical health, enjoy the outdoors, and recreate.
One of the swings, a JennSwing, can be used by a child who may not be able to access a traditional swing. A second swing on the structure offers a wheelchair platform, with a weight capacity of 750 pounds. The swing set was supported by a grant worth 5,500 dollars through the Kellogg Youth Endowment Fund with the Keweenaw Community Foundation.
Those interested in checking out the new swing set will have a great opportunity this Sunday while Copper Shores invites the Copper Country to Ahmeek for the annual community picnic beginning at noon. The park is located on Sentar Road in Ahmeek. Copper Shores’ event will run until 3 pm.
