A bump in higher education funding and $195 million for the Flint water crisis will top the governor’s agenda when he presents his budget wants and needs to state lawmakers Wednesday.
State Representative Al Pscholka, chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, says the money for Flint should help cover what the city and its residents need through the coming fiscal year.
He says that’s a better option than the alternative, which would be piecemeal supplemental spending plans every few weeks.
On the education side, the governor wants a $61 million increase in higher ed spending to bring funding back up to where it was in 2011 before he took office.
The governor will present his budget proposal to lawmakers at 11:00 a.m. this morning.
