911 Texting Coming Next Week

Call when you can–text when you can’t.

That’s the word from the Upper Peninsula 911 Authority, which inaugurates a new text service starting Monday.

All U.P. emergency call centers will be able to accept texts from wireless devices effective that day.

The project is a joint venture between the Authority and Peninsula Fiber Network, which is also a joint venture of Baraga Telephone Company and Hiawatha Communications of Munising.
