8 To 12 Inches Of Snow Fell Across Much Of Lower Michigan

People across much of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula are digging out from the eight to 12 inches of snow that fell Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

A few spots in mid-Michigan checked in with 14 inches of snow.

Brandon Hoving, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, says they don’t see a storm this big dump this much snow across such a large area very often.

He says Michigan was in the sweet spot for the storm system that rolled through.

Plus, the air temperature stayed just above freezing which kept the snow thick and fluffy and warded off any sleet or freezing rain.

Looking ahead, Hoving says it will warm up over the weekend which will turn roads and sidewalks into a slushy, sloppy mess.
