It’s been 60 years since one of the worst maritime disasters in U.S. history, the crash of the Andrea Doria off the coast of Nantucket, Massachusetts.
A Metro Detroit woman, Pierette Simpson, of Novi, was nine years old traveling from Italy with her grandparents, when their ship was hit by the Stockholm, which had gone off course. 46 people were killed.
Simpson says her grandparents lost everything since the Andrea Doria sank the next day.
She has written books and now made a documentary film, “The Andrea Doria-Are the Passengers Saved?”, which is being shown at film festivals.
