Downtown Houghton’s newest hotel opened its doors to the media for a sneak peek yesterday.
The Vault is located in the building that most recently housed Wells Fargo Bank. Built for the Houghton National Bank in 1880, it was the first stone building in downtown Houghton.
It was purchased recently by developers Jon and Jennifer Julien, who decided to renovate it into a boutique hotel. Jon said the goal was to add something different to the downtown scene…
Jennifer explained that each of the three floors will reflect the building’s original use…
The first floor will reflect the solid feeling of “old money.” The second floor will incorporate the excitement of “new money.” The third floor will showcase the thrill of “found money.”
Many of the building’s original features and assets have been incorporated into the design, including the massive vault, which serves as a sitting room in one of the suites. In contrast, decor is modern and minimalist, to create a spacious feel.
The 17 rooms range from basic up to a two-bedroom, two-bath suite. Some have balconies, and all have views of the city through large windows. The Juliens say that room prices will typically range from $189 to $289 per night, but will fluctuate based on demand, with the largest suite running as much as $400 per night.
As a “boutique” hotel, the Juliens promise that guests will be given individual attention, with special perks and bonuses designed to make them feel at home.
The first guests are expected to check in during the second week of September. Reservations are being accepted.
