31 Backpacks hosted their Big Pack: Spring Break Edition on Sunday afternoon, Monday evening, and early Tuesday morning.
31 Backpacks president, Melissa Maki estimated they packed 930 kitchen trash bags including over 4800 meals to maintain families and children in need. Snacks and personal hygiene products were also sent out.
Spring break severely limits the availability of these products that would normally be obtained in schools.
31 Backpacks is a local non-profit dedicated to fighting food insecurity in Baraga, Keweenaw, and Houghton counties, covering 9 school districts.
Maki thanks volunteers, saying that this year’s Spring Pack had the largest turn out.
Their 11th anniversary will be in May.
