13-year-old Boy On A Bicycle Hit By Car In Laurium

A 13-year-old boy is injured after being hit by a car while on his bicycle in Laurium.

Michigan State Police from the Calumet Post were called out to the accident around 7:20pm Tuesday evening.

The accident occurred at the intersection of South Calumet Street and South Hecla Street.

Police say a vehicle driven by a 35-year-old male from Calumet was traveling north on Calumet Street when a 13-year-old boy from Green Bay on a bicycle failed to stop at the intersection.

The bicyclist entered the roadway and was struck by the vehicle.

The boy was taken to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital by Mercy Ambulance and was later air lifted to the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison with possible head injuries.

His condition is not known at this time.

Police say the driver of the vehicle had the right of way and was not speeding so no citations were issued.

Laurium and Calumet Police Departments assisted on scene.
