Kim Corcoran will run as a Democrat in November for the 110th district seat in Michigan’s House of Representatives. She currently serves the community of Ironwood as the city’s Mayor and has held a position with the city’s commission for the past several years. Yesterday Corcoran arrived in Houghton County to meet with residents and begin gaining support. Throughout her career in public service, she has worked with people from the local area and state on various programs and grant projects.
So to find out what the desires are of the community, you have to be out there listening to what their wants and needs are. Facebook is helpful. I would have to say when we did our comprehensive plan, we instilled the help of a company. So we did surveys to find out what the people like to do, and then did some workshops. So you consider it all. You have to do a balancing act as far as your infrastructure, your water, sewer, your roads, and that has to come first. But you also have to have the amenities to create a place where people want to live and work and you’ll gather and make it enjoyable for the community. So a big part of it is just listening to what people want to do, get a plan, and see if you can act it out. – Kim Corcoran, Democrat nominee, 110th District Michigan House of Representatives
While speaking with Corcoran she expressed a passion for her community, and offered insight into challenges she views are challenging residents’ ability to live their lives. Such as a large need for housing stock throughout the Upper Peninsula, more money invested into public roads and main street success, and flexible healthcare options, especially for residents living near state borders. Corcoran plans to attend the Houghton County Fair today, before traveling back to Ironwood tomorrow for a small business grand opening.
