$1,000 Reward Offered In Veterans Park Vandalism Investigation

A $1,000 reward is now being offered in the search for those responsible for vandalizing Veteran’s Park in Houghton.

Veterans Park RepairedOn the morning of July 1st, someone toppled over a Purple Heart Memorial and damaged a plaque dedicated to local residents who lost their lives in World War II.

Houghton Police Chief John Donnelly says a private citizen is offering the reward to aid their department in the search for the vandals.

Donnelly said the investigation has not identified the suspects and images caught on various security cameras have been inconclusive.

The suspects are believed to also be responsible for a series of broken stop signs in West Houghton, which occurred on the same morning as the Veterans Park damage.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the Houghton Police Department.

Speaking at the Houghton City Council meeting, Donnelly went on to address the unrest that currently exists nationally between citizens and law enforcement.

He says he believes they have a better relationship with the members of the community and since the killing of the five officers in Dallas, Texas, the Houghton Police Department has received an outpouring of support–including people dropping off items for the department to show their appreciation.
