Thursday is the Great American Smokeout Day.
This was created as an effort to get more people to stop smoking and using tobacco products.
According to the American Cancer Society, 42-million Americans still smoke as of 2013, helping to make tobacco use the single largest preventable cause of disease and premature death in the U.S.
The state of Michigan has help available for smokers who want to quit through the Michigan Tobacco Quitline at 1-800-QUIT-NOW.
In the meantime, a majority of Michigan voters support a $1.00 per pack hike in the state’s cigarette tax, according to a new poll from EPIC-MRA.
