$1 Million Winning Powerball Ticket Bought At U.P. Gas Station

An Upper Peninsula man is $1 million dollars richer after matching five numbers in Wednesday’s Powerball drawing, only missing the red Powerball that would have given him a share in the $1.6 billion jackpot.

The ticket was bought at a Freedom Valu Center in Iron Mountain.

Gas station and store manager Chuck Smith said tickets for the lottery were selling big.

When Smith began his shift Thursday morning, he didn’t know that his store had sold a winning ticket.

As it turns out, the winner is one of the store’s regular customers.

Officials with the Michigan State Lottery say that the man cannot remain anonymous and he has a year to claim his prize.

Just for printing the winning ticket, the gas station will receive $5,000.
