On the 22nd anniversary of 9/11, many communities will hold remembrance ceremonies, or offer volunteer opportunities. Later this morning, Yoopers for Ukraine will invite area residents to join their community for its second annual 9/11 remembrance service on Michigan Tech University’s campus. The group plans to continue the event sparked by a main advocacy group for Ukraine, Razom. Last year, the advocacy group encouraged Ukrainian Americans and its network of regional advocacy organizations to hold 9/11 remembrances to let Americans know that their citizens were shocked by the fall of the World Trade Center towers and mourn for those who died.
At 11 am Yoopers for Ukraine will meet on the lawn at the Canterbury House. The fifteen-minute remembrance service flowers and letters at the base of the flag pole in honor those those who lost their lives on September 11th, 2001. The short service will be followed by a moment of silence. The display at the flagpole will remain in place throughout the day. The public is encouraged to leave flowers and letters at the site. Those interested in attending the ceremony at 11 a.m. should arrive a few minutes early, so as to not interrupt the memorial service.
