Yoopers For Ukraine Mark 600 Days of Conflict with a Candlelight Vigil and Moment of Silence

Yoopers for Ukraine plans to hold two moments of silence today to mark 600 days of conflict. Throughout the year the group has stood in solidarity with the children, women, and men who have been killed by the Russian military. On the 600th day of the war in Ukraine, Yoopers for Ukraine will remain silent for a full 30 minutes. Every five minutes will symbolize 20 days at war. During the group’s evening gathering at the portage lake lift bridge attendees will hold a candlelight vigil for those lost. Yoopers for Ukraine encourages those in attendance to either moment of silence wear black. The first of two gatherings will take place at noon on the Houghton waterfront pier. The candlelight vigil for Ukraine will begin at 7:30 p.m. near the Portage Lake Lift Bridge in Houghton. Find more details below.

Candlelight vigil. 600 Days of Loss and Hope

At noon on Monday, at the new pier in Houghton, we will have a moment of silence and solidarity as we stand with Ukraine for all of the “unseen” that we have lost in the last 600 days. This includes hundreds of children and thousands of women and men. The loss from this invasion cannot be grasped. People are asked to dress in black and join us for a moment of silence even if they can only come for 5 minutes. We will have a small program at noon followed by 30 minutes of silence. Each minute would equal 20 days of suffering. 20 days of fighting back. 20 days of never giving up Hope.

In the evening, at The Portage Lift Bridge, we will have a candlelight vigil with prayer and remembrance for all lost or “unseen”

Max Hasting in his book Inferno, The World at War 1939-1945, wrote of war: “One of the most important Truths about war, as indeed all human affairs, is that people can interrupt what happens to them only in the context of their own circumstances. “
For the last 600 days, Yoopers for Ukraine has solidly stood for Ukraine. We have done over 150 events and, of course, marched the bridge every week without fail. Last week we marched for Israel as well. We work tirelessly, daily, to help the average American understand the defense of Ukraine and empathize with their plight and we send Hope back to Ukraine immediately letting them know they are not forgotten!

We will not forget. We will keep standing for Ukraine which fights terrorism every day and who essentially has been fighting NATO’s war for us.

When we say, “Slava Ukraini; Glory to Ukraine!” we mean it for they truly fight against evil for Freedom for each of us!

Thank you for supporting Ukraine and Freedom these last 600 days.
