WUPPDR Presented a Materials Management Opportunity to Keweenaw County

WUPPDR spoke last night at the Keweenaw County Commission meeting. Lisa McKenzie proposed the same grant program that she had on Tuesday with Houghton County. The Materials Management County Engagement grant will award an individual county $10,000, if all six, Baraga, Gogebic, Houghton, iron, Keweenaw, and Ontonagon, apply for the county engagement grant each would receive 12,000 dollars. The key to materials management is volume, said McKenzie. The more solid waste the counties can collect the more efficient the program would become. If all the counties join the grant, WUPPDR would be in charge of the western  UP’s materials management program. The commission also approved funds that will purchase a new all terrain ORV for the Keweenaw Sheriff’s department. The price tag is 35,000 dollars, funds will come from the American Rescue Plan money Keweenaw County will receive.
