Winter Becoming an Outdoor Woman Program Canceled for Poor Winter Conditions

Poor winter conditions will force the Michigan DNR to cancel the February Becoming an Outdoors Woman program. Throughout the year the Becoming an Outdoor Woman program gets ladies and young women out into nature to learn new outdoor skills. Enjoy several recreational opportunities thanks to Michigan’s great landscape and forests.

Originally scheduled for next weekend, participants would have enjoyed opportunities to snowshoe, learn about winter camping and structures, go ice fishing, learn winter survival skills, and enjoy cross-country skiing at the Bay Cliff Health Camp in Big Bay. BOW Administrator John Pepin says that the recent warm-up deteriorated snow activity conditions too much. And the forecast ahead of February 23rd likely won’t help conditions much either. In the coming days, the department will begin issuing reimbursements to participants who registered for the program.

The next Becoming an Outdoor Woman program is scheduled for May. During the summer program, attendees can practice rifle shooting and archery, go backpacking and hiking, and learn about water and boat safety.
