Gibson Cup
The Gibson Cup series will be decided tonight, when the Portage Lake Pioneers and the Calumet Wolverines meet at Dee Stadium. The Wolverines took game one of the best-of-three series 3-2 on Friday. The Pioneers tied the set with a 5-4 overtime victory on Saturday. Face-off is at 7:30. Our pregame coverage will begin around 7:10 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com. We’ll also bring you coverage of the Wolverines’ and Pioneers’ games from the Great Lakes Hockey League tournament this weekend.

Roy

MTU
Michigan Tech hockey defenseman Matt Roy will not return to the Huskies for his senior season. He signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Los Angeles Kings yesterday. Roy was named to the All-WCHA First Team this season, and set up Shane Hanna’s winning shot in the WCHA tournament title game. He was a seventh-round selection of the Kings at the 2015 NHL Draft.

Mantha

NHL
Anthony Mantha scored twice, as the Detroit Red Wings got past the Carolina Panthers 4-3 in overtime last night. Andreas Athanasiou tallied the game-winner two minutes into the extra period. Petr Mrazek made 39 saves for Detroit. The Wings will skate at Carolina again tonight. Faceoff is at 7:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

As Athanasiou scored the winning goal, he was hit by Carolina’s Victor Rask, and pushed hard into Hurricanes goalie Eddie Läck. Läck suffered an apparent head injury as he fell into the net, was taken off the ice on a stretcher, and underwent tests at a hospital. The team later said he had movement in all his extremities, and Läck, himself, tweeted that he was not being admitted to the hospital.

Morris

NBA
The Detroit Pistons’ late-season swoon continued with a 109-95 loss to the Knicks in New York last night. The Pistons trailed by five at halftime, and fell out of contention when they failed to score in the first seven minutes of the second half. Marcus Morris led Detroit with 20 points. The Pistons have lost seven of their last eight games, and will host the Miami Heat this evening.

Jackson

With a playoff berth on the line last night, Detroit played without point guard Reggie Jackson. Coach Stan Van Gundy said Jackson was being rested, may not play again tonight, and could be done for the season. Jackson has struggled to regain strength in his legs since missing the first part of the season with a knee injury.

Norris

MLB
In spring training baseball, Daniel Norris struggled, as the Detroit Tigers lost to the Atlanta Braves 11-3 yesterday. Norris gave up nine runs on 13 hits before leaving four batters into the fourth inning. The Tigers will face the New York Yankees tonight.

The Milwaukee Brewers had yesterday off. They’ll face the Cleveland Indians this afternoon.
