Water service disruption in Portage Township

After a leak was discovered Tuesday night, the Portage Township Water Department has initiated an emergency water shut off to the Mill Road area. The action was taken at approximately 9 AM Wednesday, with no expected resolution time given yet.

Mill Road connects US-41 to the parking area for the Michigan Tech Trails, east of campus. As of now, the disruption only affects Mill Road and the Royalewood neighborhood. The leak itself is underneath an intersection about a block from the highway says Supervisor Bruce Petersen. Crews will not know the cause of the leak until they dig down to the line.

Once service is restored, customers are encouraged to allow water to run until all discoloration is gone.
