Voice Box Session registrations due Thursday

Area middle and high school students have a chance to hone their musical abilities over the next six months. Real People Media (RPM) is bringing back their Voice Box Sessions project, which is free of charge for 7th-12th grade students. There’s a catch though, only 18 spots are available.

Each participant in the program gets to learn skills related to songwriting, voice lessons, and more. Mentors have been chosen with their unique talents in mind. Mike Irish from Michigan Tech’s jazz program, former Voice contestant Jana Nyberg, and David Crowley of the Calumet Players are a small sampling of the expertise that will be available to kids with a dream of performing.

The live entertainment system isn’t really built with teenagers in mind, but that’s when you need the most help. RPM’s Rebecca Glottfelty says the Voice Box Sessions are designed to address that.

If you want some place to perform, there’s very few venues that really offer intimate setting, that’s not a bar where people can go, are eating and drinking, and not paying attention to the performer. So this is really about listening to the performer, listening to young kids basically share their stories.

A link to an application form is available here. A donation is encouraged to view each student’s livestreamed performance later this year.
