Visit Keweenaw Host the University of Michigan Economic Growth Institute During a Special Sustainable Tourism Presentation

Over the years the tourism industry has grown as a pillar of the Upper Peninsula’s economy. Tomorrow Visit Keweenaw will host a special edition of the sustainable tourism series, Unlocking Tourism’s Economic Power: Study Reveals Western UP’s Impact on Michigan’s Economy.

To help share information with local business leaders, and residents the visitor’s bureau has invited researchers from the University of Michigan’s Economic Growth Institutes to lead the event. The presentation will showcase findings from a year-long economic impact study that focused on the Western Upper Peninsula’s six-county visitor economy including Baraga, Gogebic, Houghton, Iron, Keweenaw, and Ontonagon counties.

There are two opportunities to learn more about the tourism industry in the western Upper Peninsula with a visit to Keweenaw at; 7:30 am and at 4 pm. The morning presentation will take place at the Bonfire in Houghton, and the evening presentation at the Eagle Harbor township office in Eagle Harbor.

The special presentation with the University of Michigan Economic Growth Institute is a continuation of Visit Keweenaw’s Keweenaw Sustainable Tourism series.
